The Okavango Fly-In Package combines the perfect blend of experiences. Kanana, Okuti and Shinde complement each other perfectly, offering a diverse range of habitats and wildlife encounters. We are committed to providing guests with the highest quality wildlife and adventure safari experience, whilst preserving the delicate environment and natural beauty of Botswana.
Today your unique journey will start in Johannesburg where you will fly to Maun which is known to be the gateway to the Okavango Delta. At Maun Airport a member of the Safari Air crew will be waiting for you and lead you to one of their Cessna 206 or 208 Caravan and fly you right into the Delta and be assured that the flight will already take your breath away. From the landing strip close to the camp your guide will drive you to the camp in an open game vehicle so make sure you have your cameras ready at all times!
Kanana is a hidden jewel set on the Xudum River in the southwest Okavango Delta. The area encompasses a necklace of islands dotted with palms, figs, ebony and knobthorn trees, and is home to a myriad of birds, plants and animals.
Guests are accommodated in eight spacious, twin-bedded tents, set on raised teak decks which offer breathtaking views across the waterways. Dependent on the height of annual floods, the level of water transforms this camp into a true Delta experience and in the early months of the year you may actually enjoy the visible spectacle of the water rising around the camp. All tents offer an en-suite bathroom with hot and cold running water, shower and flush toilet.
Situated in a private concession a wide variety of activities are available at Kanana. The camp offers guided walks, Mokoro excursions and night drives in addition to game drives and motor boating (water levels permitting). It also affords private access by motorboat to one of the largest heronries in the Okavango Delta and is an excellent area for birding with regular sightings of Pel’s Fishing Owl. Fishing is available throughout the year (with the exception of January and February), with excellent bream fishing from May to September and superb chances of landing tigerfish during September to mid- November.
Today Safari Air will transfer you from Kanana to Okuti, one more stunning flight over the Okavango Delta! Okuti is a delightful camp, offering a welcome touch of comfort, lies alongside the Maunachira River which flows through the Moremi Game Reserve, one of Botswana’s prime game viewing regions.
Okuti caters for a maximum of 18 guests in large, beautifully-appointed rooms, each featuring an en-suite bathroom with inside and outside showers, hot and cold running water and flush toilets. Five rooms are twin-bedded and two are family rooms consisting of two bedrooms with a shared bathroom. There is an open boma overlooking the waters’ edge for evenings around the campfire while the swimming pool offers refreshment for those warm summer days.
Experience the Moremi Game Reserve rich in wildlife. Game viewing is consistent year round, hence it is ideal for the first time visitor to Botswana. In addition to game drives you can explore the Okavango Delta waterways by motorboat – from open lagoons to winding channels, it is a birder’s paradise, especially for those in search of herons and storks in the breeding season found at Gadikwe Heronry.
Today Safari Air will once again transfer you from Okuti to Shinde. Nestled on a lush palm island in the heart of the northern Okavango Delta, Shinde is an intimate, classic camp located on the edge of Shinde Lagoon, which simply teems with animal and birdlife. The camps unique main area comprises a multi-tiered dining room and lounge which is set under canvas under the shade of ebony and mangosteen trees.
Shinde comprises eight twin-bedded classic safari tents, each with en-suite bathrooms, hot and cold running water and flush toilet. Every possible comfort has been catered for – from mosquito nets, electric ceiling fans, generated electricity and a private viewing deck through to a decanter of sherry! Each strategically positioned tent offers splendid views, whether across the Okavango Delta’s mysterious waterways or open grasslands. Accommodation is generally twin share on comfortable three-quarter size beds, however double accommodation is available on request but subject to availability.
Shinde is situated on a private concession which allows guided walks, Mokoro excursions and night drives in addition to game drives and motorboat trips. Shinde’s excellent location in the Okavango Delta ensures a combination of permanent water access for year-round water activities and large dry areas for game drive routes. This blend of environments provides the habitat for a consistently wide variety of wildlife, including the elusive sitatunga antelope.
One last time Safari Air will transfer you from Shinde to Maun from where you will fly back to Johannesburg or to your next destination.
