8 Days


Welcome to paradise on earth! This itinerary of 8 Days will give you the opportunity to explore Mauritius and all it has to offer. Upon arrival you will be welcomed and guided to the car rental facility of the airport. From there you are free to explore the region your hotel will be in or just stop on the way wherever you may want to. Your journey will start in the north of the island where you will have the possibility to visit the famous village of Grand Baie. Not to miss are the magnificient Chateau de Labourdonnais ou the Aventure du Sucre.

 

After 2 days in the Northern part you will turn towards the Western part of the island which is renowned for its magical sunsets. The bay of tamarin will certainly be a highlight, so will be visiting the dolphins in the lagoon early morning.

 

To end, you will turn southwards towards the famous Route du The. Afterwards in the East a Catamaran tour is a must. The last day is at your free disposal and many people use it to work on their tan.

Day 1: Northern Part

Upon arrival you will be met with a bottle of chilled water and refreshing towels and guided to the car rental facility of the airport where you will collect you rental car (Nissan Micra or similar). From here you will drive northwards towards your accommodation where you will overnight in a superior room on a half-board base.

Day 2: Northern Part

After breakfast in your hotel we recommend to visit the following places:

  • Grand-Baie Village is the perfect place to immerge into the culture and lifestyle of the Mauritians. With its numerous bars, restaurants and boutiques it is considered a seaside village for everyone.
  • Chateau de Labourdonnais lies in the heart of a magnificient natural reserve and invites you to discover the life of the 19th century in Mauritius. Nicely restorated this beautiful mansion built in 1859 found back its initial shine and will be one of the most surprising detours the history of the island has to offer.

Day 3: Western Part

Today you will leave the Northern part and head westwards where you should visit the following places:

  • Once upon a time sugar was as much worth as gold, as treasured as spices, as soft as silk around the necks of the noble women and since then sugar has had a very special fate and this unique saga is told at the Aventure du Sucre. Sugar has indeed made Mauritius the harmonious, smiling and multicultural island it is today!
  • The Jardin Botanique des Pamplemousses was created in the 18th century by Pierre Poivre and received today's name by Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam and with a surface of 37 hectares it will show you numerous species indigenous to the 4 corners of the world and catch your eye with its splendid colors and engaging perfumes.

Day 4: Western Part

Day 4 can be spent at your accommodation which is situated close to a famous surfing spot, between hilltops and the protected bay of Tamarin where the dolphins come and play daily. The days pass slowly in this magical part of the island, from early morning and the visit of small groups of dolphins to the superb sunsets on the beach where with you feet in the sand it is sometimes possible to spot green light rays when the skies are clear.


Alternately we recommend the following activities:

  • Swim with dolphins with the Dolswim team which will pick you up at your hotel and with one of their speed boats you will be taken out into the bay where you will swim with these stunning creatures in their natural habitat.
  • Chamarel is situated in a private property and offers stunning earth types in 7 different colours! From yellow ocher to brown to red and purple this phenomenon was formed by volcanic ashes and different minerals during erosion. The very special part about this earth is though that no matter how you mix them they will always seperate from each other eventually. Please note that it is strictly forbidden to to step on or take any of this earth!

Day 5: Eastern Part

Today you will turn Eastwards and we recommend the following activities:

  • La Route du The will give you a live display of a tea factory in the 19th century and if you visit in morning you will see the factory still operating. After learning how tea is produced you will visit the museum with may historical photographs and finish with a fresh tea tasting session, a must for tea lovers!
  • La Vanille Reserve des Mascareignes is situated in the South of the island which has preserved the initial authenticity of its inhabitants, its traditions and landscapes. You can discover a lush tropical vegetation which is home to a large number of animal and plant species amongst them the giant turtoise and nile crocodiles.

Day 6: Eastern Part

Since most activities have been on land so far you definitely need to go on a catamaran ride in order to get a complete holiday in Mauritius:

  • You will board the catamaran on the Pointe Jerome and discover the mythical Ile des Cerfs where you will visit the forts of the 18th century which are witnesses of the ferocious naval battles amongst which the Bataille du Vieux Grand Port is the most famous one since it was the only victory of the french navy in the Napoleon Wars...

Day 7: Eastern Part

After 6 days on the road it is time to relax a bit and your accommodation is certainly perfect for these purposes. Alternately you can add a spa treatment to end your holiday with something special.

Day 8: Return Home

Today you will return to the airport, drop off you rental car and fly back home with a memory card full of stunning pictures!
