GARDEN ROUTE EXPERIENCE
What to expect?

This self-drive tour starts and ends in Cape Town. It will stay in the South of the country and on your way you will be travelling along the famous "Garden Route" as well as some lesser known but certainly not less attractive places.
The distances are rather short (for South Africa) which makes it suitable for almost everybody. On the bottom of this page you find a map with placemarks to help you locate the destinations.

Your African experience starts here
Days 1, 2 & 3- Cape Town
On arrival at the airport you make your way to the car rental terminal to collect your car for the next 15 days.
From the airport it is only about a 30 min drive to your accommodation which is located in the Mother City itself which is waiting to to be experienced and explored.
There is lots to see and do, from Table Mountain to the V&A Waterfront, Long and Kloof Streets with their numerous cafes and restaurants, Constantia and Hout Bay, and from your accommodation you can do a lot on foot. Situated in Tamboerskloof, looking out over the slopes of Table Mountain, you are close to everything!
Day 5 - Franschhoek
From the Cape Peninsula it is only about an hour's drive into the Winelands, and your accommodation in Franschoek is renowned for their wines and incredible kitchen. If you book early enough you can also overnight here in one of their suites or in their Manor House. A few short drives can take you to neighbouring wine farms for more wine tasting!
Day 4 - Simon's Town
From the city centre you drive an hour to Simon's Town, which is situated on False Bay on the Cape Peninsula. This cozy little town with its quaint harbour has a real Mediterranean feel to it, and Boulder's Beach, where you will find the African Penguins, is right there. From your accommodation you can also take a short drive to the famous Cape of Good Hope.

Day 6 - Gansbaai
The drive from the Winelands along the coast to Gansbaai is spectacular, and if you are keen on doing a Great White Shark Diving experience, this is the place to do it (you would need to pre-book this and leave very early to get there in time). At your guesthouse you can oversee the Indian Ocean, so if you are there at the right time of year, you may be able to spot the whales.

Days 11 & 12 - Tsitsikamma
A short 1,5 hours will take you to one of South Africa's most beautiful national parks. This Park stretches for 80 km along the Indian Ocean and here you can do some of the country's most beautiful and scenic hikes, including the first section of the world-famous Otter Trail!
If you're lucky you will be able to see whales and dolphins, but if not you will also truly enjoy the massive waves breaking on the rocky coast, the many Rock Dassies dozing on the grassy lawns, or perhaps you will spot a Knysna Lourie or a Cape Clawless Otter!
Day 9 - Oudtshoorn
From Robertson you drive for about 4 hours along the famously beautiful Route 62 to Oudtshoorn, which is also known as the capital of the Karoo. This region is famous for its Ostrich farms and the Cango Caves, but what makes your accommodation a must is their unique Meerkat Tour, which you will need to book a few days before you arrive.
You meet up with their guide at sunrise, and with a camping chair and a coffee you head out to the Meerkats' burrows on the farm, and you watch them come out of their burrows and go about their energetic business. The Meerkats are habituated, which means they are used to people, but they are never fed or touched. Truly a unique opportunity to see these funny and resourceful creatures in their natural habitat.
Days 7 & 8 - Robertson
Hidden away in the Langeberg Mountains, your accommodation offers a perfect hideaway and a base for a few beautiful hikes. It will take you about 4 hours to get there.
Still surrounded by wine farms, your accommodation has its own wine shop where you can still do some wine tasting (We recommend this after hiking)!

You spend two nights here, so you have plenty of time to enjoy the River and take a drive into the Park, in search of Addo's elephants or the rest of the Big Five!
